Autism Assessment (ADOS-2) North Brisbane
If you have concerns about your child's social communication, play skills, behaviour, or development, an autism assessment can provide valuable information to help you better understand your child's strengths and support needs.
Little Oak Speech offers Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) assessments for children. The ADOS-2 is considered the gold standard assessment tool used to observe social communication, interaction, play, and behaviours associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
What is the ADOS-2?
The ADOS-2 is a structured, play-based assessment that allows a trained clinician to observe how a child communicates, interacts, plays, and responds in a range of activities.
The assessment is tailored to your child's age and communication level and is designed to feel engaging and child-friendly.
The ADOS-2 is one component of a comprehensive autism assessment and does not provide a diagnosis on its own. Results are typically considered alongside developmental history, parent information, and input from other professionals such as Paediatricians and psychologists.
What Happens During the Assessment?
The assessment process typically includes:
Parent interview and information gathering
ADOS-2 assessment session with your child
Scoring and clinical interpretation
Comprehensive written report
Feedback session to discuss findings and recommendations
Reports can be shared with your child's Paediatrician, psychologist, school, or other members of their support team.
Who May Benefit From an ADOS-2 Assessment?
An ADOS-2 assessment may be helpful if your child:
Has difficulty interacting with peers
Finds it challenging to understand social situations
Shows differences in play skills
Has highly focused interests
Demonstrates repetitive behaviours
Has sensory preferences or sensitivities
Experiences challenges with social communication
